Soft Witness
Soft Witness is a design practice that exists in the shadow space between memory and function. Deliberate and sentimental – practical and poetic, its output is an ode to objects personified as the quiet observers within the interiors of our lives. Founded by American designer Whitney Krieger, the studio aims not to fill a void, but rather to articulate universal feeling through objects that recall evocative memories through tactile expressions that while intimately individual are unequivocally familiar.
All pieces from lighting and furniture to wall sculptures are produced in a bespoke fashion by skilled artisans in Italy.
Whitney Krieger is an American designer based in Italy and the US. Her work at notable firms has been published in Architectural Digest. In addition to being an independent studio, projects continue alongside exceptional industry colleagues in the United States and Europe. After working for over a decade in New York and San Francisco, Whitney established her eponymous studio in 2021.
Produced in Italy, her furniture and lighting line - Soft Witness - debuted at Objective Gallery New York in October 2023.
Soft Witness is named for the objects that surround us, quietly the observers of our lives. It’s a platform to articulate our human nature in the form of furnishings through a lens of curiosity, sentiment, and connection. Its driving forces are rooted in psychology, genetics, and the dialogue between our external world and our internal selves.
