Objective Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in this year’s Design Miami. ‘All design is contemporary, if it’s alive’ unites the work of nine designers, each selected for their distinct contribution to the present moment of design: new wave art furniture.
Its title, words borrowed (and tweaked) from artist David Hockney, winks and nods at the contemplations of our day, of man, machine, and what role either will play in future creativity and production. Each exhibited works bare traces of the human that made them; they are ‘alive’ in method, construction, spirit: hammered copper and chiseled marked wood; spider leg lamps and flowerhead lampshades.
Marked by their makers, they provide the eye with a delightful disruption that cannot be glazed over, and as Hockney phrased it: “If it’s not alive, what’s the point of it?”
